He graduated in medicine from UFPR and has a residency in General Surgery at the Nossa Senhora das Graças Hospital in Curitiba. Specialization in Laparoscopic Surgery at the University of Bordeaux, France. Master's degree from FEMPAR, PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of São Paulo. In 2015 he did a post-doctorate at the University of Montpellier in France. He is a professor on the Master's Degree in Biotechnology at Positivo University and has been coordinating the Minimally Invasive Surgery postgraduate course for 17 years.

Dr. Mariano Palermo is a Bariatric and Gastrointestinal Surgeon, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He works in the field of Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery. He is the current Bariatric Surgery Coordinator at CIEN - DIAGNOMED Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina and leads the multidisciplinary bariatric group focused on the treatment of obese patients. Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires, Specialist in General and Gastrointestinal Surgery. Doctor at the Prof. A. Posadas National Hospital. Professor of Surgery at the University of Buenos Aires. Post-doctoral research in the USA under the supervision of Professor Michel Gagner in the USA. Author of 12 books, including "Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgery, Novel Techniques, Extending the Limits" edited with Professors Michel Gagner and Mariano Giménez. He has presented/contributed to more than 500 national and international presentations, is the author of more than 80 book chapters and has 79 articles indexed in PubMed. Dr. Palermo was president of the ICYLS (International Club of Young Laparoscopic Surgeons) from 2011 to 2019 and is a member of the American College of Surgeons as well as IFSO.

Formou-se em Medicina e Cirurgia pela Universidade do País Basco, especializou-se em Cirurgia Geral e do Aparelho Digestivo no Hospital Universitário de Bellvitge e obteve seu doutorado em Medicina. Também realizou períodos de treinamento no Brasil.
Atualmente, é responsável pelo tratamento cirúrgico bariátrico na Clínica Rinos, além de atuar como cirurgião no Hospital Vall d’Hebrón.
