He earned his medical degree from UFPR and completed his residency in General Surgery at Nossa Senhora das Graças Hospital in Curitiba. He specialized in Laparoscopic Surgery at the University of Bordeaux, France. He holds a master’s degree from FEMPAR and a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from the University of São Paulo. In 2015, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Montpellier in France. He is a professor in the Master’s program in Biotechnology at Positivo University and has coordinated the graduate program in Minimally Invasive Surgery for 17 years.

Dr. Mariano Palermo is a bariatric and gastrointestinal surgeon in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He specializes in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery. He is the current Bariatric Surgery Coordinator at CIEN – DIAGNOMED Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and leads the multidisciplinary bariatric team focused on treating obese patients. He graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of Buenos Aires and is a specialist in general and gastrointestinal surgery. He is a physician at the Prof. A. Posadas National Hospital. Professor of Surgery at the University of Buenos Aires. He conducted postdoctoral research in the U.S. under the supervision of Professor Michel Gagner. He is the author of 12 books, including “Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgery, Novel Techniques, Extending the Limits,” co-edited with Professors Michel Gagner and Mariano Giménez. He has presented at or contributed to more than 500 national and international conferences, is the author of more than 80 book chapters, and has 79 articles indexed in PubMed. Dr. Palermo served as president of the ICYLS (International Club of Young Laparoscopic Surgeons) from 2011 to 2019 and is a member of the American College of Surgeons as well as the IFSO.

He earned his degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of the Basque Country, specialized in General and Digestive System Surgery at Bellvitge University Hospital, and earned his Ph.D. in Medicine. He also completed training stints in Brazil.
He is currently in charge of bariatric surgery at Clínica Rinos, in addition to working as a surgeon at Vall d’Hebrón Hospital.

Member of the Chilean Society of Bariatric Surgery and author of the chapter on preoperative evaluation for bariatric surgery patients in the project to adapt the Canadian Clinical Guidelines to the Chilean context.
