June 8–14, 2026

The 4th Edition of the Immersion Course in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Colorectal Surgery is designed to train surgeons and medical residents in the detailed techniques and standardized maneuvers for performing colorectal resections, as well as in observing surgical procedures. In addition to offering online theoretical classes, the course provides students with the opportunity to participate in hands-on training focused on refining advanced laparoscopic techniques using simulators and live models. The practical sessions will take place at the Scolla Surgical Training Center, where participants will have an immersive experience, performing exercises on laparoscopic surgery simulators and practicing on live models, under the guidance of experienced coordinators. Additionally, students will be able to observe laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeries, helping them consolidate the knowledge they have acquired.

Concept, Practice & Immersive Environment

Methodology

The training is both theoretical and practical, designed to provide an understanding of the operation and components of the technological platform to be used in surgery.

All in-person training will involve the use of:

  •  In the simulation center and the operating room, focusing on routine procedures and problem-solving.
  • Supplementary preclinical training that will involve the development of motor skills based on simulations of the surgical techniques that are the focus of the training.
  • Surgical techniques will also be combined with observation of surgical cases, providing students with hands-on experience as surgical assistants, as well as the opportunity to perform procedures during training and under supervision.

All of these steps will be supervised by a preceptor surgeon with extensive practical experience and well-established expertise in the technical aspects of the training.

Classes will be held as follows:

  • Online theory classes taught by leading professionals in the field, live surgery demonstrations, and discussions of clinical cases.
  • Hands-on training using live and inanimate models.

  • Overview of the Lap Top
  • Positioning and Ports for Right Colectomy
  • Step-by-Step Technique for Right Colectomy
  • Intracorporeal anastomosis

Online classes - 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

  • Total Mesocolon Resection During Right Colectomy
  • Positioning and Portals for Left Colectomy
  • Full Range of Motion of the Splenic Angle
  • Left Colectomy: Step-by-Step Guide

Online classes - 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

  • Tumors of the transverse colon
  • Sigmoid tumors = Sigmoidectomy (without release of the splenic flexure, with or without preservation of the left colon)
  • High rectal tumors = Rectosigmoidectomy with partial excision of the mesorectum

In-person theory classes at Scolla - 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

  • Mid- and lower rectal tumors = Rectosigmoidectomy with total excision of the mesorectum
