RIBS - REMOVAL OF COSTAL CARTILAGE FOR RHINOPLASTY

August 30 and 31, 2024

MESSAGE FROM THE COORDINATORS

This invitation is for you, plastic surgeon and otorhinolaryngologist with a passion for rhinoplasty. With the significant evolution that this surgery has undergone in recent years and the growing demand for better results from patients, it has become routine to use more grafts in our surgeries.

Even though we have had the opportunity to work with specialist rhinoplasty surgeons throughout our training and to attend numerous courses in the field, we all face challenges. We all know how difficult it is to deal with secondary or tertiary cases, as well as patients with thick skin and fragile cartilage. We are often faced with missing donor cartilage from the nasal septum due to previous manipulations or the inadequate size of the structures.

These surgeries require a greater number of cartilage grafts and also a robust cartilage that can guarantee predictable results, providing the necessary structure for such cases. Generally, we don't receive adequate training in the removal of costal cartilage grafts during our residency training, whether in plastic surgery or otorhinolaryngology.

Would you like to learn how to perform this surgery safely, efficiently and able to deal with possible complications? Would you like to have the autonomy to perform the entire procedure, without depending on the availability of colleagues from other specialties with conflicting schedules? Then we invite you to take part in this costal cartilage removal course, with a focus on cadaver-lab practice and live surgical demonstrations. Shall we go together?

Furthermore, according to the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, rhinoplasty is the fourth most popular cosmetic procedure in the world. According to ISAPS data, Brazil led the way with 87,879 rhinoplasties performed in 2020, followed by Turkey with 66,950 and the United States with 55,436. The use of costal cartilage grafts is an essential tool in new rhinoplasty techniques, especially in secondary surgeries and patients with thick skin, guaranteeing better aesthetic and functional results.

We look forward to seeing you on our course and exploring the full potential of this important area of plastic surgery together.

METHODOLOGY

  • The training consists of a theoretical and practical approach, aimed at covering the main topics related to plastic surgery, with a focus on costal cartilage removal for rhinoplasty. During the course, the following topics will be explored:

    - Detailed knowledge of the anatomy of the costal arches.
    - Evaluation of 3D tomography of the costal arches.
    - Development of specific technical skills for the removal of costal cartilage.
    - Approach and treatment of possible complications resulting from the removal of costal cartilage.

The methodology combines theoretical and practical sessions to ensure a comprehensive understanding and honing of the skills needed to perform this procedure safely and effectively. We are committed to providing comprehensive, quality training, enabling participants to face the challenges of surgical practice with confidence and excellence
