Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a very common condition that is part of a urologist’s daily practice. Minimally invasive surgical treatment of BPH has advanced significantly in recent years, thanks to a better understanding of the pathophysiology and anatomy of urinary dysfunction resulting from prostate enlargement. The advent and development of new technologies, particularly laser and bipolar technologies.

Classes will be 100% in-person and will take place in Curitiba.

Methodology

The program focuses on training medical professionals to perform Endoscopic Anatomical Enucleation of the Prostate (AEEP) surgery, providing surgeons with continuing medical education that covers the latest developments in the field, training surgeons in the basics of HoLEP, and teaching the techniques, principles, and new technologies needed to prepare students for today’s job market.

The theoretical and practical training will provide an understanding of the operation and components of the technological platform to be used in surgery. With a limit of 10 students per class—divided into two groups of five students on the first day and five pairs for the operating room activities—the entire in-person training will involve the use of a simulation center with a realistic model and the operating room, focusing on routine procedures and problem-solving.

Surgical techniques will also be combined with observation of surgical cases, providing students with hands-on experience as surgical assistants, as well as the opportunity to perform procedures during training under the supervision of a mentor. All of these steps will be supervised by a preceptor surgeon with extensive practical experience and well-established expertise in the technical area being taught.

The theoretical and practical advanced training course in Endoscopic Prostate Enucleation will take place over 3 days, with theoretical classes at Scolla’s headquarters, followed by training on a realistic model on the first day. The operating room training will take place over two days. Upon completion, students will have access to the procedure schedule and, with prior notice, will be able to observe the procedures “on site.”
