Module 5 - supervised on-site internship

Compulsory internship in surgical centers of hospitals in Curitiba, Porto Alegre and Blumenau, accompanying the clinical and surgical activities of the course's faculty, during a period of two weeks, according to a previously defined schedule

The training is theoretical and practical for knowledge of the operation and components of the technological platform to be used in surgery.

All face-to-face training will involve the use of:

•  Simulation center and in the operating room, focusing on usual operation and troubleshooting.
• Complementary pre-clinical training that will involve the development of simulation-based motor skills of the surgical techniques that are the focus of the training.
• Surgical techniques will also be combined with observation of surgical cases, giving the student experience as an assistant in procedures, as well as performing procedures in training and under mentoring.

All these steps will be accompanied by a preceptor surgeon, with extensive practical experience and consolidated knowledge in the technical area being trained.

The classes will take place as follows:

• EAD theoretical classes taught by professionals that are references in the field, presentation of live surgeries with discussion of clinical cases.
• Hands-on training on living and inanimate models.
• Observational internship, which provides experience with real service routine in Minimally Invasive Surgery.
  
  
  

• The hands-on practical classes will be held in person at Scolla - Surgical Training Center located in Campo Largo, in the metropolitan region of Curitiba/PR/ Brazil.  
• The theoretical classes will be held online.
• The live surgeries will be performed at Hospital do Rocio in Campo Largo/PR
• The cadaver-lab classes will be held in Salvador/BA

In addition to the post-graduate certificate recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC), the
student will have the opportunity to further increase his knowledge by taking the
Certification Course in Robotic Surgery - in parallel to the post-graduate course - thus investing in a complete and differentiated formation considering the most modern areas of surgery available in the market.

About robotic surgery

Robotic surgery is one of the most current advances in the field of surgery. Bringing much more than precise movements, surgeons gain 15 times greater range of vision when
compared to conventional procedures.

In Brazil alone, in the last 5 years, there has been an expressive increase of 500% in the number of registered procedures. The certification course in robotic surgery is divided into three modules:

The first module consists of online recorded and/or live theoretical classes, plus a collection of more than 12 hours of edited surgeries. Total workload: 32 hours;

The second module is carried out individually and consists of simulator training in the respective hospitals. Total workload: 40 hours;

The third module is called "in-service". It consists of practical training in the surgical center
, with a review of all theoretical/practical knowledge.

The student trains with the robot in placement of portals, docking, triangulation, exchange of forceps, and suturing on a model, among others.

It will be carried out in the surgical centers of the respective hospitals. Total workload: 3h

Surgeons can still have the specific qualification of their areas provided by the medical societies, according to each society's norms.
